Daily News, Suzaku: Carrying the slogan "Turkey will be better" and making the sun symbol as its logo, former Turkish interior minister, Meral Aksener, launched a new party.

"Turkey and its people are tired.Good Party or Iyi Parti become the solution of the political climate change of this country," said Aksener, quoted from Al Jazeera, Thursday, October 26, 2017.

The new party, he said, is a new challenge for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the upcoming election. Turkey needs a change after almost 15 years under the rule of the AK Party.

It is pointed out, Iyi Parti has the potential to become one of the strongest challengers for Erdogan in parliamentary and presidential elections in 2019.

However, only five members of the 550-seat parliament have joined the new party despite polls saying the party could win support from several parties including the AK Party as well as nationalist and secular groups.

"We're way out, you're out, that is Turkey's 80 million country, our people clearly say they want a new government," Aksener said.

Aksener was sacked last year from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), the smallest of the three opposition parties in parliament, after a failed attempt to oust party leader Devlet Bahceli, whose support helped Erdogan win a victory that widened his authority.

Since his dismissal, 61-year-old Aksener has become one of the most vocal figures in the country, often criticizing Erdogan and the government.
